Perception of ISO-Certified Companies - Analysis of Customer Opinions

Discover how customers view ISO-certified companies. Full analysis by Certiget based on survey data. Trust, quality, visibility - see what really matters.

Management system certification in accordance with ISO standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or ISO 27001 plays an important role in building trust in organizations. However, the mere presence of a certificate does not guarantee that it will be noticed or correctly interpreted by customers and business partners.

The purpose of this report is to explore how companies holding a management system certificate are perceived by users of their services and products.

Research Methodology

Method: Online survey with closed-ended questions (single-and multiple-choice), supplemented with direct interviews conducted on the streets of Warsaw (Poland)

Sample size: 120 respondents

Demographics: Adults aged 27–52 (average: 39), professionally active, using a range of B2C and B2B services and products

Research period: February-March 2025

Research Results

1. Attributes associated with companies certified to ISO management system standards

This question allowed multiple selections. The results show that:

73% associate the certificate with quality assurance

63% link it to professionalism

54% believe it conveys credibility

34% associate it with innovation and modernity

32% link it to transparency

18% associate it with excessive bureaucracy

12% believe the certificate has no real impact

8% consider it an indicator of exclusivity

6% associate it with higher prices for services or products

The ISO management system certificate continues to evoke positive associations, most commonly with quality and professionalism. However, a portion of respondents view it as limited in visibility or as a formal requirement rather than a meaningful distinction.

2. Does certification impact perceived credibility?

In the single-choice question, the responses were as follows:

30%  definitely yes

44%  rather yes

18%  rather no

5%  definitely no

3%  no opinion

Overall, 74% of participants perceive certification as a factor that increases a company’s credibility, although only a third express strong confidence in this belief.

3. Do customers know which companies they use are certified?

This was also a single-choice question. The results were:

14%  know exactly which companies are certified

27%  have some idea, but are not certain

35%  have never considered it

19%  do not know but would like to find out when making purchasing decisions

5%  do not pay attention to this type of information

These findings indicate a low level of certification awareness among customers, yet there is clear interest in gaining access to such information.

Key Findings

  • ISO management system certification remains a positively perceived marker of trust, especially in the context of quality and professionalism.
  • Trust derived from certification is not unconditional - many customers require additional context or confirmation of its relevance.
  • Awareness of which companies hold valid certifications remains low, limiting the potential of ISO certification as a communication and competitive tool.

Recommendations

1. Companies holding a management system certificate should actively communicate its presence and meaning to clients:

  • Display certification on the company website in a dedicated section (e.g. "Trust and Quality")
  • Clearly explain what the certification covers and how it benefits the customer
  • Publicly share the certificate’s validity period and the name of the certification body
  • Use the certificate in tenders, proposals, and communication with partners

2. A certificate is not just a logo - it is evidence of a functioning quality system.

Customers expect transparency and authenticity. Their trust increases when certification information is easily accessible, up to date, and verifiable.

3. Certiget supports companies in effectively and compliantly communicating their certification status:
